Nature and Gastronomy are the hallmarks of this area in the interior with its high mountains and hidden valleys. The traditional markets are well worth visiting: Tolosa Market (Saturdays) and Ordizia Market (Wednesdays), where we will be able to enjoy local products in an extraordinary setting.
In this area the production of Idiazabal cheese is extremely important, so we suggest you visit some traditional cheese factories and if you want, prepare your own Idiazabal cheese. And for good measure, it is an ideal place to enjoy nature in the “Txindokiko Itzala” adventure park in Aralar Nature Reserve.
Tolosa, a waypoint and meeting place for travellers from Navarre, France and Castile, experienced a highly important period of commercial development. At the present time it still has a weekly market every Saturday throughout the year. A delight for the senses.
The tour operates on Wednesdays, on the day of the weekly market. It includes visits to Interpretation Centres on Food, Nutrition and Gastronomy, with a special mention given to Idiazabal cheese, a typical product of the region. Ordizia market offers its most prized produce from the hands of the producers themselves. Quality and freshness is guaranteed. The tour ends with a delicious meal prepared using seasonal produce.
Visit the Idiazabal Cheese Interpretation Centre, and round off your experience with a visit to a cheese factory where you will be able to taste their cheeses.
The adventure park offers us some really challenging activity; an activity that allows each of us to practise our abilities and skills. Total price for the family (3-5 members).
The shepherd will open the doors of his home and his cheese factory to you so you can get to know how this highly-appreciated product is made, together with its secrets and history.
